Night/Shift is an exciting annual late-night series that celebrates the many dance forms explored and practiced by Ontario-based movement makers. Initiated by Citadel + Compagnie in 2019, and co-presented with Fall for Dance North, Night/Shift is a unique platform that embraces artistic innovation, risk taking and inclusion.

Initiated by Citadel + Compagnie in 2019, and co-presented with Fall for Dance North, Night Shift is a unique platform that embraces artistic innovation, risk taking and inclusion.

Join us at The Citadel: Ross Centre for Dance, for an immersive experience like no other. Enjoy nine unique performances over three evening from artists: Sarah Di Iorio, Millina Fletcher, Marvel Itemuagbor, Neena Jayarajan, Carmen Romero, Eilish 미정 Shin-Culhane, Speakeasy, Priyanka Tope, Logan Whyte.

Programmed by a Selection Commiittee including dance artists Olga Barrios, Rachana Joshi and Samantha Sutherland this highly anticipated late-night dance series returns to one of Toronto's favorite dance spaces, The Citadel: Ross Centre for Dance. from Oct 3-5, 2024. Each uniqur programme begin at 10PM EDT.


Selection Committee

Olga Barrios 

Olga Barrios is a multi-award winner choreographer and dancer, she has collaborated with theater, musical, dance companies as well in multidisciplinary projects in Canada, USA and Colombia. She is the co-artistic director on Vanguardia Dance Projects, created in Canada in 2008. She holds an MFA in dance at York University of Toronto. Olga is original from Bogotá- Colombia and currently working with exchange projects between Colombia and Canada. As arts educator, she has an extended experience, working in Montreal, Hamilton, Kitchener, Toronto, New Jersey and diverse cities in Colombia.  Her most recent creations are Dreaming in Blue (an underwater video dance), Mestiza (solo work for site specific and for stage presented at Nightshift in Citadel), Hybrid Women (Vanguardia Dance, creation for site specific and film). Work currently in development are Converstions a collaboration between Vanguardia and Aanmitaagzi North Bay, A Flor de Pelo (Hairy Stories) in Colombia and Memories of Water Projects (interdisciplinary work dance video). “I consider the arts a basic link in the process of building community and society".  


Rachana Joshi

Rachana Joshi is a dance artist, teacher and choreographer based in Tkaronto. She completed her Bharatanatyam arangetram under the tutelage of Lata Pada in 2017. In 2019, she graduated from York University's B.F.A program in Dance with honors and received training in Limon and Graham modern techniques through the program. Rachana is currently focused on broadening her choreographic skills by creating her own dance works and building multidisciplinary artistic collaborations for the future. She is the co-artistic director of Kala Dance Collective, an organization committed to amplifying the voices and work of classically trained Indian diasporic dancers.


Samantha Sutherland

Samantha is a contemporary dance artist, choreographer, and teacher based in Tkaronto.  Her ancestry is Ktunaxa and Scottish.  She is a graduate of the Arts Umbrella Dance Diploma Program.  Samantha has been choreographing works since 2021 and has presented in festivals across Turtle Island.  Some include the Matriarchs Uprising Festival by O.Dela Arts with presentations in Vancouver and at the National Arts Centre, Sharing the Stage with The National Ballet of Canada, Night Shift by Fall for Dance North, Dance Made in Canada, and Weesageechak Begins to Dance. She is currently an Artistic Associate with O.Dela Arts.
